Reigning world Moto GP champion Jorge Lorenzo will miss Saturday’s Dutch MotoGP after fracturing his left collarbone in a high speed crash in a wet second free practice at Assen today.

The in-form Yamaha rider, on a hat-trick after wins in Spain and Italy, had posted the fastest time in the first practice session.

But in the second session, with standing water making life difficult on the circuit, he lost control of his bike at Turn 13.

He was flung over his handlebars, eventually climbing into a waiting ambulance nursing his left shoulder.

Race organisers later confirmed the Spaniard had fractured his left collarbone and would miss Saturday’s seventh leg of the MotoGP season.

According to autosport.com he was due to fly to Barcelona for surgery on Friday.

Lorenzo will be furious at his misfortune as he arrived in Assen seeking his third consecutive win after cutting Dani Pedrosa’s world championship lead to just seven points.
