Travelers Cos., the New York City-based property and casualty insurer, helped lead the Dow higher on Tuesday following its report that core income categories for the company, including investments and premiums written, increased in the fourth quarter. Net income declined because of the volume of claims that were filed after Hurricane Sandy. Still, the stock shot up because Wall Street’s expectations were muted to begin with. The stock had already hit a record high on Friday.
