(ECNS) - The average number of apps per mobile device in China has reached 34, and about 20 new apps are activated each day, according to a report by TalkingData, a Chinese mobile data analysis service.

The report says mobile phone users spend an average of 1,458 seconds, about 24 minutes, on apps each day, with the biggest chunk of time (just under five minutes) on games. The remaining time is spent on apps for traffic navigation, social networking sites, educational information, and news.

Of the top 20 apps, most are provided by China's three Internet giants - Baidu Inc, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, and Tencent Holdings Ltd, popularly known as BAT.

Two mobile instant messaging apps by Tencent, QQ and Wechat have dominated market shares, at 78 percent and 77 percent respectively. Other top apps include Taobao and Alipay Wallet by Alibaba.

TalkingData analysts say apps by relatively small companies, such as Kugou music and WiFi Master key, feature in the top 20 list and deserve attention from investors.

The report also shows that geography affects the type of apps mobile phone users download. People in Beijing are keen users of cab-hailing apps, Shanghai users install more apps about personal finance, and users in Shenzhen and Guangzhou are more likely to use video and games apps.
