American Water Profit Rises

American Water Works Co Inc (AWK), the largest publicly traded U.S. water utility, on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $93.5 million or $0.52 per share compared with $59.7 million or $0.33 per share last year.

Excluding items, adjusted earnings for the quarter were $0.52 per share compared with $0.48 per share a year ago.

The company's revenues for the quarter were higher at $731.4 million compared with $706.2 million in the prior year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.51 per share on revenues of $794.5 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

For the full year 2015, the company affirmed its adjusted earnings guidance of $2.55 to $2.65 per share, while analysts expect $2.61 per share.
