Dollar Tree is set to open its fourth Kalamazoo area store on Saturday

KALAMAZOO, MI – Dollar Tree Inc. will open its fourth Kalamazoo-area store on Saturday (Nov. 15) at 1722 W. Main St.

Renovation work on the location, a former Walgreens pharmacy store, have been underway for several weeks.

"We are excited and looking forward to the opening," said company spokeswoman Chelle Davis. "We can't wait to serve the community."

The business is set to open at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Cheasapeake, Va.-based Dollar Tree, which owns and operates more than 5,000 stores in the United States and Canada, will not say how much it is spending on the renovation work or to acquire the space.

From plastic table cloths to travel tooth brushes, the business sells a wide variety of household items, consumer goods, cleaning supplies, party supplies and many other things for $1 or less.

"There are a lot of retailers with 'dollar' in their names, and they do wonderful work," Davis said in October. "But our mix is: the things customers want and what they need."

The new location, on West Main at Berkley Street, will be about 13,000 square feet. Davis said it will employ 15 to 17 permanent part-time workers and two full-time managers.

Dollar Tree has announced no changes for the 10-year-old store it has about two miles to the west at 5280 W. Main St. The company also has stores at 3346 Stadium Drive and 5585 Gull Road.
