Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation trailer sets up the death of Ethan Hunt's IMF

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 16 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the fifth Mission: Impossible film, puts Ethan Hunt and the IMF on a collision course with a shadowy organization, as you can see in the full trailer released today by Paramount Pictures.

The trailer expands on the recently released "Fate" clip with an extra minute and a half or so of footage. Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the remaining members of his team — including Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and old friend Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) — are being hunted by a clandestine organization that's just as deadly as they are. The Syndicate, which appears to be led by a character played by Alec Baldwin, is looking to wipe out the IMF. Hunt enlists the help of a new ally (Rebecca Ferguson), but as always in these stories, you never know where a person's true loyalties lie.

Rogue Nation looks like a globe-spanning journey filled with insane stunts, such as Tom Cruise hanging onto an airplane high above the ground; women as beautiful as they are deadly; and ridiculous face masks that make the wearer look like a different person. In other words, it looks like a Mission: Impossible film.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation hits theaters July 31. Advance tickets are on sale now for showings on the night of July 30, including IMAX screenings. You can see the poster and four still images below.
