Sophie Monk quits 2DayFM breakfast show

After less than a year in radio, Sophie Monk is quitting the 2DayFM breakfast show.

Monk’s management has confirmed it had given notice on Monk’s behalf, reported News Corp.

Her decision to leave comes just three months after Mel B's departure, meaning only Merrick Watts and Jules Lund will remain of the original four.

Monk was on a one-year contract with Southern Cross Austereo and joined the network in January as part of the breakfast team replacing Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson, who moved to KiisFM.

Facing strong competition from Sandilands and Henderson, the new 2DayFM breakfast show struggled as the show's original listeners quickly defected to KiisFM.

There are reports is Monk considering expressions of interest from outside the network, both locally and in the US, and that her decision to leave was prompted by the network procrastinating about plans for 2015.

"We gave notice on Sophie’s behalf recently after she carefully re-evaluated her position on the breakfast team," Nick Fordham of Fordham Company management said last night.

"She has enjoyed the role but felt she needed to move on and seek new challenges."

Fordham added that Southern Cross Austereo remains in talks with Monk about a future role.

There is speculation Hamish Blake and Andy Lee will take over the breakfast slot next year in a bid to claw back the network's mass audience exodus, but this also put a cloud over the fate of Monk and her colleagues' roles at the station in 2015.

Watts is believed to be at the end of his contract while Lund’s contract has another year.
