The Chandigarh Administration is planning to organise a week-long adventure sports carnival in the last week of April which will include rock climbing, bungee jumping, para-sailing and water sports activities at Sukhna Lake, Adviser to Administrator Vijay Dev said on Thursday.

CITCO MD Kavita Singh, who accompanied the Adviser, said the carnival would be spread over two venues – Sector 34 and Sukhna Lake. The Sector 34 venue will have wooden walls for rock climbing, jeep-run parasailing, dirt tracks for ATG motorbiking, bungee jumping, trampoline catapult and several other adventure sports.
“On the other hand, we will have water scooter and para-sailing at the lake. Considering the ecological aspect and serenity of the lake, this facility will be set up at the Lake Club side so that it does not disturb the regular morning walkers,” Kavita Singh added.
She further said that the carnival would be treated as “a trial”’ to ascertain the response of city residents and if it is warmly welcomed, then the activities would be organised on a regular basis as is being done in several other cities, including Delhi and Goa.
Boating, meanwhile, resumed in the lake after a three-month hiatus that was brought upon as a precautionary measure after bird flu hit Chandigarh in December. There was palpable excitement among tourists and visitors, who went for boating soon after it was inaugurated by the Adviser in presence of Home Secretary Anurag Agarwal and other senior officials. Water sports also resumed.
