Leading Texas-based companies on equality

A few Texas-based businesses are making headway in promoting LGBT inclusion across the state, making the Lone Star State a national leader in private sector workplace equality, according to a report released today by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization.

Forty-four Texas companies are included in this year's Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which ranks Fortune 1000 companies and top law firms based their LGBT equality. A record six Texas companies received perfect scores. The elite group includes American Airlines, one of the nation's foremost leaders in LGBT workforce inclusion, and among just nine companies nationwide that have received perfect scores of 100 since the CEI began in 2002.

Other Texas companies receiving perfect scores are Vinson & Elkins LLP, AT&T, GameStop Corp., Dell Inc., and Comerica Inc.

Texas-based companies that received a score of 90 or above are:

American Airlines; AT&T Inc.; Comerica Inc.; Dell Inc.; GameStop Corp.; Vinson & Elkins LLP; J.C. Penney Co. Inc.; Shell Oil Co.; Andrews Kurth LLP; Baker Botts LLP; BP America Inc.; Bracewell & Giuliani; Haynes and Boone LLP; Kimberly-Clark Corp.; Norton Rose Fulbright; Southwest Airlines Co.; Spectra Energy Corp; Texas Instruments Inc.; Waste Management Inc.
