Delhi confidetial: Maldives calling

Discussions between Harsh Vardhan and Mohamed Nazim took an amusing turn Wednesday.

MALDIVES CALLING

DISCUSSIONS between Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and National Security Minister of Maldives Mohamed Nazim took an amusing turn Wednesday when, during a conversation about how the island nation could do with the services of some specialists in that country, Director General Health Services Dr Jagdish Prasad offered his services in that country as a cardiologist. At this, secretary Lov Verma quipped: “Yes he is looking for a vacation.” After a brief interlude, the minister himself followed suit with the plea that since politics keeps him busy, he too could head to Maldives to further his medical practice.

FALLING IN LINE

NEW Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar met with a lot of hostility when his candidature was mooted ahead of Assembly polls. Post-election too there was a lot of opposition to his name when it got into circulation for the chief ministership. But soon after he was elected the leader of the legislature party, the same people who had opposed him lost no time making a beeline to meet him. There was also a mad rush to put out advertisements in the media hailing him. One of the many slogans used by people feting him, which takes the cake, is: “Saada jeevan uchh vichar, Bhajpa ke Manohar Lal (simple living, high thinking, that’s BJP’s Manohar Lal).”

CATCHING UP

PRIME Minister Narendra Modi has been successful in using social media platforms, especially Twitter, to reach out to the young India. For instance, he has created a special page for the countrymen to wish him on Diwali. He has tweeted the link as well. The Congress and Rahul Gandhi, having lost out in the game to capture the social media space, are now trying to catch up. So for the first time, Rahul Gandhi has a four-second video clip wishing everyone on Diwali. The message is being circulated on WhatsApp and Twitter.

SHEILA COMES CALLING
FORMER Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who resigned as Kerala Governor, met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his North Block office on Monday. While the meeting could be unrelated to the election results, it surely did not go unnoticed as the minister has a fairly busy schedule these days owing to the political as well as administrative responsibilities on him. A senior official however clarified that Dikshit had come to convey Diwali wishes to the Home Minister.
