AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa met Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah on Friday afternoon and handed him a list of names who will be made ministers in her government. She is expected to take oath as chief minister tomorrow at 11 am, sources said. As Jayalalithaa left Raj Bhavan to garland AIADMK founder M G Ramchandran’s statue, large crowds greeted her en route.

Earlier in the day, an AIADMK legislature party meeting, which started at 7 am today, concluded in five minutes electing party chief J Jayalalithaa as the leader of the legislature party, paving her way to become the CM of Tamil Nadu.

Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and three senior ministers visited Jayalalithaa at her residence immediately after the meeting. The chief minister also submitted his resignation to Governor K Rosaiah. The resignation was accepted and Jayalalithaa was invited to form the government ‘at the earliest.’

Jayalalithaa’s return to the top post comes after she was acquitted by the Karnataka High Court in a 19-year disproportionate assets case. She was forced to quit as Chief Minister after she was found guilty by a trial court last September.

May 23, after 10.30am (9.30 am to 10.30 am considered inauspicious): She reaches the centenary hall of the University of Madras, one of her favourite venues in Chennai, where she would be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time. Most likely, R Thandavan, Vice Chancellor of the university, who is also a card holding member of her party and one who acted in AIADMK’s propaganda movies during MGR’s period, will be receiving her at the university campus.

After the swearing-in ceremony, she would head to the state secretariat. She would sign three crucial files on Saturday, including one on transgenders and another on women.

A press meeting is also being planned on the same day evening, for which the time and venue is not yet finalised.
