Michigan State gets $3M to support men's basketball program

AP

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A fundraising campaign to help support Michigan State University has received a $3 million gift to boost the school's men's basketball program.

The donation from Mark and Cindy Pentecost was announced Thursday by the East Lansing school. It's in support of the "Empower Extraordinary" campaign and will be used to update the men's basketball offices and practice facilities and establish an endowment for facility improvements.

Mark Pentecost is president and CEO of direct sales company It Works! and is a former high school basketball coach and teacher in Allegan.

The school says the donation is the third gift of $3 million or greater to MSU Athletics received since the public launch of "Empower Extraordinary" in October.
