A Walmart Supercenter may be coming to Clare.

CLARE, MI — A Walmart Supercenter may be coming to Clare, according to a company spokesman.
"We've announced plans for a new Walmart Supercenter in Clare that will bring new shopping convenience and affordability to the community," company spokesman Bill Wertz said in an email to MLive/The Saginaw News.
The approximately 158,000-square-foot store would be located on Colonville Road, but an exact address hasn't been determined, Wertz said.
It would bring about 300 jobs to Clare, which is about 60 miles northwest of Saginaw.
"Our Supercenters have a full range of grocery items, including fresh produce, meat, deli and bakery items, as well as a pharmacy and a wide assortment of apparel and general merchandise," Wertz said.
Walmart has not submitted plans to the city of Clare, yet.
"We've had some preliminary conversations with city officials, and we do intend soon to be submitting some official plans to them," he said.
Company officials aim to begin construction in 2015 so the store can open in 2016.
In the Great Lakes Bay Region, Walmart stores are located in Saginaw Township, Kochville Township, Bangor Township and Midland.
When asked why Walmart chose Clare, Wertz replied, "We are always looking for new locations where we can make shopping more affordable and convenient for our customers. We believe a store in Clare will be a welcome addition to the business community."
