Tempur Sealy International will build a large manufacturing and distribution center in Plainfield and create up to 300 new jobs by 2015, the company announced today in a news release.

Construction will start this year on a 600,000-square foot facility the company will lease at 9597 E. County Road 200 South. The distribution center will open in early 2015.

Kentucky-based Tempur Sealy manufactures and distributes products such as mattresses, foundations and pillows. Workers at the facility will both assemble and distribute Tempur Sealy brands, the first time the company has handled both manufacturing and distribution at one center.

“Because of its centralized location and proximity to our customers, the Plainfield facility will allow us to improve our customer service and logistics efficiencies,” Scott Vollet, senior vice president, global operations for Tempur Sealy International, said in a prepared statement.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered the company up to $2.8 million in conditional tax credits and up to $100,000 in training grants, if the company hires the workers, according to the news release.

Plainfield also is considering tax incentives.

“Out of a world of options, Tempur Sealy leaders have selected Indiana, a state that works, for their newest operation,” Gov. Mike Pence said in a prepared statement.

The company plans to begin accepting applications in October. Check http://experience.tempurpedic.com/hoosierapplication/.
