The multimillionaire businessman embroiled in seedy allegations of 'wife-swapping' and a foursome with investment banker Sage Kelly and his estranged wife Christina was left to bring up his three children alone after the sudden death of his wife.

Aegerion Pharmaceuticals boss Marc Beer, 50, was left reeling following the death of Jennifer, his wife of 18 years, from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 42 in 2008.

But two years after his wife's death, Mr Beer is accused by Christina Kelly of being involved in an evening of drink and drugs fueled debauchery with his girlfriend at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Boston - as she says she was pressured into having sex with him.

He vehemently denies the claims, describing them as 'ridiculous, baseless and grossly irresponsible' - and insult to his current girlfriend.

The Kellys are currently going through a bitter divorce and Sage Kelly, 42, the $7-million-a-year head of healthcare investment banking at Jefferies & Company, is portrayed in court papers filed by wife Christina as a habitual drug user who was regularly unfaithful and abusive to his children.

In her explosive affidavit, Christina, 39, claims she felt pressured by her husband - nicknamed the real-life Wolf of Wall Street - into sleeping with Mr Beer whom he was hoping to land as a client during an evening at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Boston in 2012.

Describing the event in a sworn affidavit, Christina said: 'The evening started at a bar in the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Everyone in the group drank alcohol and did lines of cocaine (except for Marc's adult sons who had just joined us for awhile).

She said they soon retired to an apartment belonging to Bjorn Koch, the Senior Vice President of Wealth Management at UBS in Boston, adding: '...Everyone continued to snort cocaine and drink alcohol. At one point, Marc's girlfriend, while dancing wildly, removed her top to should [sic] everyone her breast implants.

'Marc sat next to me on the couch and told me that I was beautiful. With Sage looking on with approval if not titillation, Marc started to touch me.

'Marc then invited everyone to go back to Sage's and my room at the Ritz Carlton. Once there everyone did more "lines" of cocaine.

'There was one room, with two beds.' She continued:  'Soon, Sage and I were having sex with each other on one bed, and Marc and his girlfriend were having sex on the other bed. Then Marc said, "Let's switch." I did not know what to do.

'Marc suggested that his girlfriend and I have sex with each other. I was not happy about that, and I looked to Sage for guidance.'

She said that 'mindful' of securing business for her husband, she had 'sexual contact' with Mr Beer's girlfriend, while the men watched.

She claims that Mr Beer's girlfriend then slept with Sage - while she had sex with Mr Beer, leaving her husband angry with her the next morning.

However, she adds: 'I do know one thing, however. Following that evening, Marc Beer has been an important client of Sage and, presumably, a substantial reason for Sage's enormously successful career at his current investment bank, Jefferies and and Company, Inc.'

Mr Beer, who lives in a sprawling house in Sudbury, Massachusetts, retaliated, saying: 'Ms. Kelly’s accusations as to me are categorically false and baseless. I do not use cocaine or any other illegal substance.

'All of the allegations which Ms. Kelly has made regarding me and my girlfriend are ridiculous, baseless and grossly irresponsible.'

His company added in a statement: 'Marc categorically denies the allegations. The board fully supports Marc, and has confidence in his leadership and his character. The board takes its governance responsibilities very seriously, but does not comment publically on internal governance matters.'

In a feature with Forbes magazine in April 2013, it details how Mr Beer took the helm at Aegerion after being approached by an old friend and doctor, Daniel Dubin, about a new drug following his wife's death.

It prompted him to come out of retirement after the tragedy, reading: 'When Marc Beer sold his first public company, the biotech ViaCell, to Perkin-Elmer for $300 million in 2007 it seemed like the beginning of an amazing entrepreneurial career.

'But just months later it was cut short: His wife of 18 years died suddenly from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 42, and he committed himself to parenting his three teenagers full-time.

'Two years later his 14-year-old daughter told him to start another company. 'Dad, you’ve been preaching purpose to me my entire life,' she said. 'I don’t think purpose is driving me home from school.'

Weeks after that conversation, the article reads: 'Daniel Dubin, a physician, old friend and vice chairman of Leerink Swann, told him over dinner about a promising drug being shunned by investors but backed by one of cardiology’s best minds: Daniel Rader, chief of translational medicine and human genetics at the University of Pennsylvania. Beer called Rader and found himself sold. 'All I did was listen,' Beer says. 'He just needed to be listened to.'

This led to what Forbes described as 'one of the year's biggest biotech success stories', Aegerion Pharmaceuticals.

It adds: 'On Christmas Eve, less than two years after Mr Beer took the helm, the tiny company won approval from the Food & Drug Administration to sell its drug, Juxtapid, as a treatment for patients with a rare genetic disease that frequently causes fatal heart attacks before age 20.'

In the wake of Christina's affidavit which has been doing the rounds on Wall Street, and which details what she claims to be her husband's rampant drug use, Sage Kelly's firm today announced he was taking a voluntary leave of absence.

In a memo to employees, Sayeth executive committee chairman Brian Friedman and CEO Richard Handler, said: 'For the past few extremely painful days, the media has been reporting on one person’s very personal and inflammatory allegations, some of which relates to several of our employee-partners and two of our clients.

'We cannot express how deeply we regret the agony and distraction that this has caused all of us, not to mention our clients, each of whom has categorically denied the allegations.

'In an effort to deal with these matters, Sage Kelly has requested a voluntary leave of absence. Sage is embroiled in a deeply personal and painful situation and, as such, we have decided to accept his decision to take time off to focus on doing what is in the best interests of his children. In our hearts, we wish Sage and his family only the best.'

Meanwhile, Christina, who has two young daughters aged 10 and six with Sage, was today seen visiting the Manhattan offices of her lawyer, William S. Beslow - clutching a binder plastered with messages of love from her daughters.
