Bard, Inc. and Ethicon, Inc. continue to move forward in multicounty litigations currently underway in New Jersey's Bergen County Superior Court. According to court documents more than 9,600 transvaginal mesh lawsuits are currently pending in the two multicounty litigations now underway in Bergen County Superior Court. This includes 1,766 cases filed in the C.R. Bard proceeding, and more than 7,853 claims included in the litigation involving Ethicon. All of the lawsuits similarly allege that the companies' surgical mesh devices used to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence were defectively designed and manufactured, and put women at risk for mesh erosion, chronic pain, organ damage and other debilitating vaginal mesh complications. Plaintiffs further allege that the pelvic mesh implants were not subjected to adequate testing to ensure their safety and effectiveness, and that C.R. Bard and Ethicon failed to provide patients and the medical community with sufficient warning regarding their risks.
