SRINAGAR: Militants on Saturday killed sarpanch Ghulam Ahmed Bhat amid last phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
"Gulam Ahman Bhat, headman of Bomai village in Sopore district, was shot dead from close range by militants today morning. While being shifted to hospital, he succumbed to his bullet injuries," a senior police officer said here.
The officer said that police have registered an FIR in the incident and an investigation has been initiated to identify the culprit.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.
