DOLLAR GENERAL TALKING WITH FTC: Dollar General Corp. said it is “actively engaged in discussion with the Federal Trade Commission” on the extent of divestitures it would have to make in connection with the acquisition of Family Dollar.
Family Dollar Stores Inc. inked an $8.5 billion agreement to be acquired by Dollar Tree Inc., and has spurned repeated attempts by Dollar General Corp. seeking to be the acquirer instead. Family Dollar has delayed the vote by shareholders on its Dollar Tree deal, citing an update by U.S. antitrust authorities on the required divestitures to complete the deal.
Dollar Tree has said repeatedly that it too is willing to divest stores to complete the transaction. Dollar General, meanwhile, continues to state that it remains committed to acquiring Family Dollar.
