City Officials and Families Dedicate Full Viewpoint Park

Memorial1The City of Galesburg officially welcomed its newest park to the downtown area yesterday, with the dedication of Full Viewpoint Park.

Mayor John Pritchard, and city officials including Galesburg Fire Chief Tom Simkins joined with members of the Full Family for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The new park, located on the corner of Ferris and Kellogg Streets, has been in the works for more than a year.

That’s according to Full family member Cynthia Stoerzbach, who says the project has been completely privately funded. An estimated $60,000 has been put into the park, which includes funds for upkeep.

Stoerzbach tells WGIL that a lot of people are to thank, especially the volunteers.

“There are an awful lot of people who are professionals, who donated their time and labor,” says Stoerzbach. “We think that there were probably about 100 volunteers overall. Someone asked me about the man hours–I would say it was well over 1,000. It would be sporadic. We would get e-mails from people, saying they were going to show up to do this or that, or whoever could come would come. It was interesting to see how something could be formulated and done, without official organization.

Stoerzbach says she is happy to see that a number of groups in town are already using then park. She added that the dedication was a great way to see the community care.
