Peabody Energy Q3 Loss Widens - Quick Facts

Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) reported third-quarter net loss attributable to common stockholders of $150.6 million or $0.56 per share, wider than $26.1million or $0.10 per share in the same quarter last year.

Loss from Continuing Operations was $154.0 million or $0.58 per share, compared to income from Continuing Operations of $24.0 million or $0.06 per share in the prior year quarter.

Adjusted loss for the latest third quarter was $0.59 per share, compared to profit of $0.05 per share in the comparable quarter last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss of $0.66 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Third quarter revenues declined to $1.72 billion from $1.80 billion in the prior year, primarily on lower realized pricing in Australia. Wall Street analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $1.64 billion.

Peabody is targeting full-year 2014 adjusted loss of $1.48 to $1.38 per share, excluding any charges related to implementation of an organizational restructuring program that was recently launched. Analysts project full-year 2014 loss of $1.46 per share.

For fiscal 2014, Peabody affirmed its outlook for total sales of 245 million tons to 25 million tons, including U.S. sales of 185 million tons to 190 million tons and Australian sales of 36 million tons to 38 million tons.
