Grand jury to consider parking lot shooting case

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — One of the two suspects arrested in connection with gunfire last weekend in a crowded Olive Branch parking lot will have his case heard by a grand jury.

Maj. Bill Cox of the Olive Branch Police Department told The Commercial Appeal in an email Friday that the grand jury will consider whether to pursue action against 34-year-old Antonio Marquette Davis of Memphis (http://bit.ly/1Amdfk9).

Davis was charged with aggravated assault and of being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with last Sunday's incident, in which shots were fired about 3 p.m. in the parking lot of a McDonald's.

The second suspect, 44-year-old Lamarkus M. Pilate of Cordova, was charged with aggravated assault and controlled substance violations. His case is in Olive Branch Municipal Court.

Police said the incident, which spilled over into the nearby Kroger parking lot, was the result of a drug deal gone bad. No one was injured.

An off-duty Olive Branch officer who was at the Kroger store when he heard the shots held one of the suspects at gunpoint until additional officers arrived. The other suspect was found in the parking lot and arrested.
