More than eight tons of cheese, dip, and other food make up what might be the world's largest "snack stadium," unveiled this week at Scottsdale Fashion Square mall in anticipation of Super Bowl XLIX.

Business-rating website Yelp.com built the stadium out of about 44,000 items as part of a fundraiser and food drive for St. Vincent de Paul food bank, which will receive the food once the attraction is taken down shortly after the Super Bowl, to be played at University of Phoenix Stadium on Feb. 1.

The stadium rises seven feet in the rotunda just outside of Barneys New York in the downtown Scottsdale mall. It includes four tons of Velveeta, four tons of Rotel dip, 2,200 bags of Boulder Canyon chips, 32,000 cans of Dole products, 400 boxes of Hot Tamales and Mike and Ike candy and 50 goody bags from Harkins Theatres.

Yelp calls its snack stadium the world's largest, a claim no rival has yet come forward to challenge. The exhibit is 27 feet long, 24 feet wide and surrounds a mock field where visitors can play tabletop football.

Fabrication took about two weeks, and the pieces were assembled in about 12 hours on Wednesday, said Lindsey Dempsey, community director for Yelp in Phoenix.

The food items in the stadium are valued at about $150,000, Dempsey said. The public can join in the fundraising effort through cash or card donations at the mall exhibit or online at stvincentdepaul.net/yelp-snack-stadium.

Scottsdale Fashion Square is located at 7014 E. Camelback Road, at the northwestern corner of Camelback and Scottsdale roads.

Phoenix-based design studio Bar Napkin Productions designed the snack stadium and contributed about 1,200 man-hours to the project.
