San Francisco-based data center and colocation provider Digital Realty has named Michael Henry as the company’s senior vice president and chief information officer. He will work in the company’s Bay Area headquarters and report to A. William Stein, Digital Realty’s chief executive and CFO.

Henry joined Digital Realty this week from Rovi Corp., also based in the Bay Area. At Rovi, Henry was senior VP and CIO for the developer of cloud-based media technology.

“The exchange and analysis of data is critical to all of our clients, and it is certainly critical for our employees,” Stein commented in a press statement. “Michael’s outstanding talents as a transformational technologist and industry thought leader will accelerate Digital’s ability to unlock employee innovation across the company to directly benefit our clients,” he added.

Stein touted Henry’s “strong track record” of enterprise IT leadership and innovation at a number of firms. These include time spent as senior managing partner for analyst firm Gartner, and as VP of IT Transformation for Sweden-based headset maker Ericsson.

“He also brings a deep information security background, which is an increasingly critical feature of today’s IT landscape,” Stein observed about his company’s new CIO. Indeed, Henry has spent several years in the information security space, including time as senior director of global architecture information security at Applied Materials.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to join such an outstanding organization,” Henry remarked in a press statement. “I’ve spent the past twenty-five years developing high-performance teams and delivering consistent results, and I look forward to working with the rest of the executive team at Digital Realty to serve our incredible client base.
