The gender ratio of the Karnataka voters’ list has marginally improved with the enrolment of more women, of late.
According to Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha, the gender ratio of the electorate has improved from 960 at the time of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls to 963 now. This means there are 963 women voters for every 1,000 men voters.
Disclosing this at a programme organised by the Election Commission of India to mark the National Voters’ Day in Bengaluru on Sunday, Mr. Jha said the voters’ list had now become more “inclusive” with the improvement in sex ratio. However, he stressed the need for initiating further action to bridge the remaining gap.
A total of 9 lakh new voters had been enrolled so far after the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, taking the elector-population ratio of the State to a healthy 72 per cent. The newly-enrolled voters included three lakh youngsters, Mr. Jha said.
Seeking to remind people that revision of voters’ list was a continuous exercise, the Chief Electoral Officer sought their co-operation in making the process effective.
Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, State Election Commissioner P.N. Srinivasachary, and BBMP Commissioner Lakshminarayana were present.
