I've just got a build of a P8Z77-V Pro with an i5 3570k + 2x4gb DDR3 up and running after going through all the Asus advanced bios setting to make everything as I want it but as I want to use the built-in Intel graphics for a short while without plugging in my 5 series gtx card I have noticed after about 7 seconds from being in my Windows 7 account the display shuts off (goes black) the green led on the monitor also goes off completely like it is not powered on at all but the mobo is still on, fans still spinning. However it does not cut out while booting in safe mode with networking (as I currently write this).

I've looked at the bios settings for the igpu and most if not all is set to auto but I also tried making the igpu the default display but still get the cut offs. Please help me!

Thanks

Sounds to me like your windows is trying to send a resolution to your monitor that your monitor can't handle, Boot into safe mode, change your resolution to something you like, then reboot. Get back to m e if that's not it, or if you're actually into windows and not the windows loading thing.

Thanks alexoiu. No it is not I had to select IDE mode in the bios as I currently use Windows 7 64bit Pro on my Kingston 120gb SSD which was originally installed on a very old AMD/Dual core/N Force 4 chipset which did not have an AHCI option in the really basic bios it had so I was using the SSD on sata I mode even though I tried to get it to run on sata II mode it wouldn't, that's why I have upgraded to a much newer build. I want to use AHCI mode but it will obviously not boot into Windows if that's selected. I read a lot you should make a fresh install of the OS with a new SSD but can I just change the registry settings to make it work then select it in the bios or will this not work? I don't know why the display would turn off because of this, should it?

joshrik, thanks but the resolution is set very low like 1024x768 and I also tried 1280x1024 in safe mode and it works ok but not in normal boot. Two monitors I have, one can handle 1650x1050 (widescreen monitor) and the other just under as its a 19'' lcd.

I will try again setting the resolution to the lowest possible in safe mode and boot into normal windows to see if it changes.

Thanks.

Though you're lucky the system boots at all with such different driver sets installed, it is likely there's a driver conflict between the previously installed drivers and the different chips in the new build. A fresh install is the best way to ensure all drivers are correct.

Okay, but I before I do that I've tried changing the resolution to the very lowest and no luck. Also I downloaded and installed the latest graphics driver for the HD 4000 which although gave me more options regarding resolutions and displays the monitor model name, still no success. I modified the registry to convert the sata mode to ahci as I just noticed there is a microsoft link to do this in the mobo manual sheets but still nothing. I will reinstall Win.

Edit: yes that's probably the cause schiztech, thanks all.
