G&W buys Ark. railroad from Mass. owner

Darien rail operator Genesee & Wyoming, parent of Hartford’s Connecticut Southern Railroad, said it will acquire the Arkansas division of Westfield, Mass.’s Pinsly Railroad Co. for $40 million.

The division includes three railroads in the southern state, which haul approximately 35,000 carloads per year, as well as two transload operations, G&W said. The operations total 137 miles of owned and leased track, 70 employees, and 16 locomotives.

If the deal is approved, G&W will add the acquisitions to its existing base of six short-line railroads in Arkansas.
