Fresh grads, new hopes: Over 320 students of Isra University get ready to face the real world

The university is the only private degree awarding institution in Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD: Many university students dream of the day that they will get to toss their mortarboards up in the air as they celebrate their transition from the classroom to the real world. For around 328 students of Isra University, this happened on Monday at the institution’s 10th convocation.

There were 109 graduates from the MBBS programme, 48 from the BDS programme, 15 from the Nursing, programme, seven from the BS in Vision Sciences, 10 MPhil scholars and six diploma holders. A total of 132 people graduated in the disciplines of business administration, information technology, telecommunications, electronics, electronic engineering, software engineering and computer sciences.



While addressing the graduates and their proud parents, the university’s chancellor, Dr Asadullah Kazi, said that the institution has come a long way since it opened its doors to its first batch. “Over the last decade, we have succeeded in establishing Isra Islamic Foundation as a prominent name in the field of higher education,” he said. “We have also been recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as well as other regulatory and supervisory institutions.” The educational institution, which also has campuses in Karachi and Islamabad, took the fourth spot in HEC’s 2012 rankings of medical universities. The chancellor said that the popularity of the university has been increasing and it is receiving more applications each admission cycle. The university is the only private degree awarding institution in Hyderabad

In his speech, vice chancellor Dr Ghulam Qadir Qazi said the university will continue to expand, gradually offering more courses and degrees. He added the university has already contributed to society by providing quality healthcare service to the city’s poor people at nominal charges.

The best graduates of each programme were also recognised at the graduation ceremony. Dr Vinita Moorpani of the MBBS programme, Dr Neelam Memon of the BDS programme, Muhammad Nabeel Khan of BS Electronics programme and Maha Afaq Ahmed Khan of the MBA programme were given gold medal for being the top students of their respective courses. Nine silver medals were given to other high-flyers. An honorary doctorate was also conferred on Syed Sibitul Hasnain, the president of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, in recognition of his services to medical education.
