Bethlehem power outage blamed on circuit breaker failure

A circuit breaker failure was to blame for a brief power outage Tuesday afternoon on South Side Bethlehem, according to PPL Electric Utilities.

The outage began about 3:20 p.m. and affected 1,420 customers at its peak, PPL spokeswoman Melinda Stumpf said.

As of about 4:20 p.m., all but nine customers had power restored.

The outage affected properties on East Fifth, East Sixth and Mechanic streets, Stumpf said.

A division of Allentown-based PPL Corp., PPL Electric says it has invested $4.7 billion in system improvements geared toward reliability over the past decade and anticipates even greater investment over the next five years.
