Lenovo’s latest tablet is subjected to dissection

You might remember that earlier last month, Lenovo took the opportunity to upgrade its Yoga line of tablets, by pushing out new models from the Yoga line, including Windows and Android models.

The newcomers arrive in either 8-inch or 10-inch variations and offer full HD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) regardless of the operating system onboard.

Under the bonnet lies an Intel Atom Z3745 quad-core Bay Trail processor fitted with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, depending on the model you opt for (expandable via microSD).

The Lenovo Yoga tablet bunch has been characterized by a long battery life and the newcomers aren’t too different. And the producing company mentions that the Android 4.4 models should be able to sustain up to 18 hours of battery life, which is quite impressive.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Tablet with Android is taken apart, bit-by-bit

In theory, everything seems to be quite perfectly arranged, but what happens when one of the internal components stops working? This is exactly what the folks over at my My Fix Guide were trying to find out when they tore down the Android Lenovo Yoga 2 tablet.

It turns out that the news is good and it’s quite easy to dissemble the tablet. All you need to do to remove the rear panel is to take out three screws and you’ll be given access on the inside.

The first thing that can be removed is the camera, which can be taken out by detaching the connections of the power button and the camera itself. There are some other cables you need to be careful with, including those of the speaker and of the touchscreen which uses a Synaptics 7300B to 76 channels.

The tablet has two main boards connected via a soft cable. The motherboard is covered with a metal shield to prevent electromagnetic interference. Six screws are securing the motherboard into place.

Piece by piece every item making up the tablet is taken apart, including the Intel Atom processor, 16GB of memory, 2GB of RAM EMMC5 Samsung, Wi-Fi module (with Broadcomm chip), GPS (also Boardcom) and two speakers (secured by four screws each).

Even the particular hinge design gets dissected and we get to take a look at the raw component.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Tablet proves easy to disassemble

Looking at things into perspective, the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 is very well assembled, the components are neatly ordered inside and the device is reinforced with a metal frame that supports the internal components and ensures greater rigidity to the whole.

So it appears that if you’re handy with tech, you’ll be able to fix a thing or two about the slate.
