People love to tweet when they travel.  They especially love to complain about airlines.

Here are the airlines people talk about most on social:

As you can see, Southwest and Delta easily get the most social mentions.

But that's just half the story…

That's a chart showing the social sentiment of each airline compared to its industry average.  Obviously, discount providers Southwest and Spirit are underperforming in a big way, while Delta and JetBlue tend to have happier customers. 

What to watch for:

We're watching these numbers for large divergences from the norm.  For example, if we start to see Spirit's social volume climb dramatically, or Delta's social sentiment drop significantly, we'll know there is a shift in consumer behavior and be ready to find opportunity in the stock.  

Until then, we'll consider this further proof that you get what you pay for.
