Sardar Bhagwan Singh (PG) Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research, Balawala, Dehradun, as a sequel to Indacad Fest programmes, organised an industry-academia interaction today. It organised the “Pharmazenith 2015”, a two-day national seminar-cum-workshop, based on the theme “Inculcating Advanced Pharmaceutical Skills with Innovative Approach”.

The workshop was inaugurated by SP Singh, chairman of the institute. The keynote addresses were delivered by Prof RK Maheshwari from SGITS, Indore, Prof Ashok Kumar Tiwari from Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr D Birdi, vice-president, Acuums Pharmaceuticals, Haridwar, Dr Yogender Singh Tomar, senior manager, Akorn Pharmaceuticals, Baddi (Himachal Pradesh), which was followed by hands-on training in different laboratories.

In Pharmacology Laboratory, “Bioassay, Estimation of various biochemical and haematological parameters, Screening of CNS, Anti-Inflammatory, CVS Pharmacological activities, in Pharmaceutics, “Demonstration at Pilot Plant, Manufacturing of Tablets and Injections and their testing”, in Pharmacognosy, “Various parameters prescribed by WHO for standardisation of herbs and herbal preparations” were the topics discussed. In Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Analysis laboratory, there was explanation of principles and practical application with regard to gas chromatography, HPLC, double beam spectrophotometer, flame photometer etc. In microbiology laboratory, sterility testing and methods based on microbiological assay were demonstrated.

Around 550 students from various colleges of the state and other states participated on the first day of the workshop which will conclude tomorrow.
