SENDERO MARKETPLACE STARTS LEASES

The development and leasing has started at Sendero Marketplace, an 11-acre neighborhood retail center in Rancho Mission Viejo. Rite-Aid was the first to sign with the 98,000-square-foot center, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2016.

The marketplace near Antonio Parkway and Ortega Highway will feature classic Ranch-style architecture with adobe walls, rustic stone materials and low-pitched gabled roofs in neutral earth tones. The marketplace, run by Westar Associates, is part of Rancho Mission Viejo’s first village Sendero, which is nearing the build-out of its 941 homes.

LADERA MAN OPENS DUNKIN’ DONUTS IN LAGUNA HILLS

Joe Haupt of Ladera Ranch and Brad Anderson of Newport Beach have opened a Dunkin’ Donuts at 25242 McIntyre St. in Laguna Hills, the first of 10 planned locations in south Orange County, according to company officials. The sweet franchise held a grand opening on April 8 with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, giveaways, samples and their mascot, Cuppy. The shop donated $1,000 to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County during the event.

The location is one of more than 11,300 Dunkin’ Donuts in 36 countries worldwide.

BOUTIQUE OPENS IN LAGUNA HILLS

Laguna Niguel residents Elyse Morrow and Danielle Diaz are holding a grand opening of their clothing store Sassy & Chic at 26538 Moulton Parkway in Laguna Hills at 10 a.m. Saturday. The boutique specializes in designers from Los Angeles.

“We want women to feel relaxed and ready to explore what looks and styles suit them,” Morrow said. “Our clothes are high quality and moderately priced. Our customers will come back not only for our clothes, but for who we are and how we make them feel.”

The opening day will feature refreshments and snacks from Mod Pizza and Nothing Bundt Cakes, raffle winners every two hours and 15 percent off all day.

RANCHO CENTER EXPANDS TO ALISO

Rancho Santa Margarita-based Pathfinders Learning, which teaches one-on-one reading, writing, math, spelling, attention, organization and memory, is expanding to Aliso Viejo this month.

The office at 27121 Aliso Creek Road will be open by appointment only and will have a grand opening in a few months, said Lauren Browne, clinical director. The business, which is owned by Brenda Lana, will kick off its new location with a parent meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday .

MALL EVENT TO SHOW OFF FASHION TRENDS

The Shops at Mission Viejo is celebrating spring fashion noon to 5 p.m. Saturday by launching Lookbook Live in partnership with Glamour and GQ magazines to bring the latest trends to life with style experts from the magazines. The interactive event, which will take place near Nordstrom, showcases style closets as inspiration, beauty stations, style challenges and a makeover presentation to honor breast cancer survivors.

A host of new businesses have also opened at the mall and a handful of others will open at the shopping center this spring. So far Starbucks, OC Jewelers, California Mattress and Brow Arc Dry Bar have opened along with fashion boutiques Windsor Fashions and Decolores. The Girl Cave, Phone Vibe and Lush handmade cosmetics will open this spring.

SKIN 63 OPENS AT SHOPS AT MISSION VIEJO

Skin 63, which sells skincare and beauty products, has opened at The Shops at Mission Viejo. The business offers in-store experience with demonstrations and facial treatments. The facials are complimentary with a purchase of any product, and facial programs are offered to customers as a natural replacement for Botox and anti-aging surgical techniques, office manager Natalie Libesman Levy said.

SELF STORAGE COMPANY ACQUIRES 32 LOCATIONS

Ladera Ranch-based SmartStop Self Storage and its two affiliates Strategic Storage Trust II and Strategic Growth Trust have acquired 27 facilities, in addition to another five expected to close in the first quarter, throughout the country for about $145 million.

The facilities, which include about 18,000 storage units, are located near Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Colorado Springs, Denver, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. All 32 facilities, bought from DSI Properties, will be managed by SmartStop and re-branded under the SmartStop trade name. With the acquisition, SmartStop, owned by Ladera Ranch resident Michael Schwartz, will own 168 self-storage properties in 21 states and in Toronto, Canada.
