Bayport-based Andersen Corp. announced this week that it has signed the Ceres Climate Declaration, which commits it to accelerate its adoption of environmentally sustainable business practices.

As part of this commitment, Andersen announced new corporate sustainability goals. By 2020, the door and window manufacturer plans to reduce its per-unit solid waste, energy and water use by 20 percent compared with 2013 levels.

“Signing this declaration is one more step in our evolution as an industry leader and it exemplifies our drive for ongoing improvement across our full product life cycle — from the forest, to our operations, to our customers’ homes, and ultimately our communities,” CEO Jay Lund said in a news release.

Ceres, a nonprofit organization that advocates for environmental sustainability, created the declaration in 2013. Several major U.S. companies have signed, including Nike, Apple and Unilever.
