HP carves up software between Avnet and Ingram

HP has awarded part of its software portfolio to Ingram Micro following a tender process.

The deal adds HP Software's IT Management range to the distributor's HP portfolio, which also includes PC, mobile, printing and infrastructure solutions.

While Avnet Technology Soutions has lost the agency for HP IT Management tools, it retains much of the HP Software range, notably security products such as TippingPoint, ArcSight and Fortify, as well as big data analytics.

Observatory Crest, which was acquired by Arrow ECS in October 2014, also supplies some of the HP Software security portfolio. We have reached out to HP to ask about other local software disties and will update the story if we hear back.

HP’s IT Management software includes application lifecycle management tools for mobile and performance testing, enterprise-grade business service management, service and portfolio management and cloud service automation.

Ingram's latest HP win comes in the same week that CRN revealed the distie had appointed former Dicker Data commercial director Chris Price as general manager of Ingram Micro’s HP portfolio.

However, it is understood that HP Software will come under the remit of Lee Welch, Ingram Micro's general manager of enterprise software.

Branko Bugarski, HP Software general manager, said: "Ingram Micro is HP Australia’s leading hardware distributor, recently awarded HP 2014 Distributor of the Year.

"In aligning our hardware and software distribution businesses with a proven market performer, we are looking to increase our run rate business, improve partner satisfaction and increase market share," added Bugarski.

Competition among HP distributors has stepped up in the last 12 months, with Synnex becoming the fifth Australian distributor for the HP Enterprise Group portfolio.

It follows a big year for Ingram Micro Australia in which it launched its cloud marketplace, grew sales by $170 million, pushed into physical security and pro AV, and become the first local distributor for Dell’s full enterprise portfolio.
