Apple Reportedly In Talks With Discover, Viacom For Streaming TV Service

Apple Inc. AAPL may team up with several television networks to offer a streaming TV service later this year, according to unnamed sources cited by multiple reports.

Offerings through the service would be slimmer and cheaper in comparison with traditional cable TV subscriptions, and may be available via Apple devices for between $20 to $40 a month, according to various reports.

Programming may include content from Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. FOXA, CBS Corporation CBS and Discovery Communications Inc. DISCA and Viacom, Inc. VIA as well as other providers, according to the New York Times on Tuesday.

Apple last week teamed up with privately held Home Box Office Inc. to offer HBO subscriptions to Apple device users for $14.99 a month.

According to the Washington Post, when Apple chief executive Tim Cook announced the HBO deal he said, "Apple TV will reinvent the way that you watch television, and this is just the beginning."
