Weeks after leaving his job atop Nationwide Retirement Plans, Larry Hilsheimer has been named chief financial officer of Scotts Miracle-Gro Co.

Hilsheimer, who was president of Nationwide’s retirement plans division until last month, will oversee corporate and operating finance functions at Marysville-based Scotts (NYSE:SMG).

Prior to joining Columbus-based Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. as CFO in 2007, he was regional managing partner for Deloitte & Touche LLP. In addition to his business background, Hilsheimer sits on boards at Ohio State University and the Fisher College of Business, as well as Battelle for Kids.

Hilsheimer takes over for Dave Evans, who left the lawn and garden consumer products company in January to become CFO at Battelle in Columbus.

“To add someone with Larry’s strong financial pedigree and broad business background to our executive leadership team is an enormous win for Scotts Miracle-Gro and its shareholders,” CEO Jim Hagedorn said in a press release. “His leadership skills will bolster an already strong finance organization, and his business insights and experience will make us a stronger and smarter company.”
