UGI Energy Services and Its Subsidiaries Provide $800,000 to Pennsylvania Schools Through Scholarship Program in 2014

UGI Energy Services LLC, the midstream and energy marketing subsidiary of UGI Corporation, and UGI Storage Company today announced contributions of $800,000 through the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) program to support student scholarships at schools and scholarship organizations across the state. The donations provide tuition assistance to enable students living in low-achieving school districts to attend local private and parochial schools.

The OSTC program is available to Pennsylvania businesses paying certain specific state taxes and deemed eligible for participation by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. 2014 was UGI's first year of participation in the OSTC program.

"For many years, UGI has demonstrated a commitment to supporting education in communities where our employees and customers live," said Alisa Harris, vice president of government and public affairs of UGI Energy Services. "Just through the OSTC program alone, a total of 49 organizations will benefit from donations distributed in February, September and December 2014."

One of those organizations benefitting from the donations is the Children's Scholarship Fund Philadelphia (CSFP). CSFP is a privately funded program assisting children from low-income Philadelphia families. CSFP's mission is to provide financial access to quality, safe tuition-based schools. About ,000 students are currently receiving support from the program.

"UGI's 2014 donation to the CSFP provides approximately 40 one-year scholarships for low-income students," said Harris. "UGI is dedicated to improving education for future members of our industry's workforce, decision-makers and leaders."

"Since its founding in 2001, CSFP has awarded more than 16,500 four-year scholarships," said Ina Lipman, CSFP executive director. "CSFP has proven to be effective. Our scholarship recipients' on-time high school graduation rates are greater than 96 percent, compared to their peers in public schools who graduate on-time at rates of only about 57 percent, with a large majority of those not prepared to enter the workforce or college."

UGI Energy Services also supports Ready. Set. READ! in collaboration with the United Way of Berks County, through the company's charitable giving and employee volunteerism programs.
