McDonald's layoffs target Warrenville, Oak Brook HQ
The struggling McDonald's Corp., seeking ways to reposition its food and its bottom line, has targeted 74 employees for layoffs, and another 31 for either layoffs or lower-level positions in Oak Brook and Warrenville.
The Oak Brook-based restaurant giant said the layoffs would start around April 1, according to reports filed Thursday with the state.
At the Oak Brook headquarters, 57 employees are targeted for layoffs, while another 25 people have the option of leaving or taking a lower-level position.
At offices in Warrenville, 17 employees are targeted for layoff while another six have the option to leave or take a lower-level job, according to the documents.
These are all nonunion positions, according to the documents submitted by Karen King, U.S. senior vice president and chief people officer for McDonald's.
The layoff notices were provided to the state a day after the company said its CEO would be replaced after the company suffered its worst quarter in decades. Steve Easterbrook, a company veteran who rejoined McDonald's as its chief brand officer in 2013, will replace Don Thompson as CEO.
Earlier this month, McDonald's cut about 63 employees.
McDonald's spokeswoman Terri Hickey said the company is "moving with a sense of urgency to improve our performance and enhance our customer focus. This includes a hard and thoughtful review of our current organizational structure in the U.S.; adjusting how we invest our time and resources; and eliminating some roles while adding or changing others."
