Friday Sector Laggards: Financial, Technology & Communications

In afternoon trading on Friday, Financial stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.5% loss. Within that group, Navient Corp (NASD: NAVI) and The Charles Schwab Corporation (NYSE: SCHW) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 3.3% and 2.4%, respectively. Among financial ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLF), which is down 0.7% on the day, and up 0.04% year-to-date. Navient Corp, meanwhile, is down 10.50% year-to-date, and The Charles Schwab Corporation is up 3.23% year-to-date. Combined, NAVI and SCHW make up approximately 1.4% of the underlying holdings of XLF.

The next worst performing sector is the Technology & Communications sector, showing a 0.4% loss. Among large Technology & Communications stocks, Symantec Corp. (NASD: SYMC) and Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASD: CTXS) are the most notable, showing a loss of 4.2% and 1.8%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Technology & Communications stocks is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK), which is down 0.5% in midday trading, and up 4.99% on a year-to-date basis. Symantec Corp., meanwhile, is down 2.77% year-to-date, and Citrix Systems, Inc. is up 2.79% year-to-date. Combined, SYMC and CTXS make up approximately 0.7% of the underlying holdings of XLK.
