Parents asked to pay more attention to the education of their children

Tarkwa, March 26, GNA - Mrs. Florence Ansere-Bioh, Community Affairs and Public Relations Manager of Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Tarkwa Mine, has urged parents to pay more attention to the education of their children.

She said despite the Company's teacher motivational package, scholarship awards for brilliant but needy students, the academic performance of pupils in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), keep falling.

The Community Affairs and Public Relations Manager made the call    at an educational consultative committee meeting for stakeholders organized by the company at Tarkwa.

Mrs. Ansere-Bioh said,    although the current performance of community schools, such as New Atuabo, Samahu, Brahabobom and Huniso Junior High Schools, was not encouraging, the company would continue to award scholarships and motivate teachers until the trustees in charge of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation advised them about what to do.

She said as students who would be qualified to take key positions in the country, they needed to concentrate on what they were taught in school,   and stayed committed to their studies as the mine was prepared to motivate teachers to give of   their best.

Mrs Ansere-Bioh appealed to students who are on the company's scholarships list,    to avoid social vices that could mar their academic progress.

Mrs. Ansere-Bioh appealed to Parent-Teacher Associations and School Management Committees in the various neighbourhoods to help raise educational standards.
