IAMGOLD Reports Rock Burst In Westwood Mine; No Employees Hurt

IAMGOLD Corp. (IMG.TO,IAG) late Thursday said an event occurred in a confined area of the Westwood mine in Quebec in the afternoon of January 22, but no employees were hurt.

A rock burst occurred and caused a localized underground ground fall. No employees were injured and all employees in the mine were evacuated. While access was initially blocked for four people , they were not injured and were also able to exit the mine safely.

Gold production in the mill was not interrupted as Westwood has sufficient stockpiles and has advanced underground development. Mining, in the specific area affected by the rock burst, has been suspended until the situation analysis is completed.

The Westwood emergency response team was immediately deployed. The company has notified government authorities, including the provincial safety authorities CSST, and local stakeholders.
