Five men have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and possessing firearms in connection with the raid of a post office in south London.

The men, aged 22 to 34, were charged late yesterday evening following the armed robbery of the Post Office branch in Croydon High Street on May 26.

Reece Perry, 22, of West Norwood, Shane Perry, 32, of Tulse Hill, Gary Katabarwa, 27, of Lambeth, Dwayne Ramsey, 34 and Herbert Kulsumu, 34, both of no fixed address, have all been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm.

Perry and Katabarwa were also charged with possessing ammunition without a certificate.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes as armed police stormed into the Post Office and shouted “put your hands up”, causing a group of men to sprint off in opposite directions while dumping cash on the street.

During the police chase an unmarked police car crashed into a vegan market stall and injured a flower seller.

An eyewitness said a police officer jumped out of the car and chased the group on foot.

Two people were injured inside the Post Office and were treated by the London Ambulance Service for none-life threatening injuries, the Met said.

The five men will appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court later today.
