Nakamura will have a full dance card on Saturday. She'll also cover a "Fairy Tale" prom night for Northwest Academy at the Adrianna Hill Grand Ballroom. Northwest Academy is an independent middle and high school in downtown Portland with an art-focused curriculum.
That small, independent nature has driven students' prom planning. The academy's photography instructor Heidi Kirkpatrick will be the event photographer, and English instructor Doug Cornett will play the part of DJ. "We never want our prom to become as mainstream as giant schools, but as the school grows, prom will too," wrote Molly Meier, one of the prom's organizers.
