Also making the top 10 are Stockport Plaza, the air raid shelters and Reddish Vale Farm.

The site combined the ratings for several game and entertainment centres, to make them joint ninth on the list.

1 Robinsons Brewery Visitors Centre

Typical review: "I've done a few breweries and this is by far the best. The tour was perfectly paced and the information passed cleverly set at a level that will interest and entertain at any knowledge level. The whole place is spotlessly clean and safe, meaning a full tour without any risk of getting dirty or hurt. Then into the bar for excellent food (at sensible prices) and a few pints of top-notch ale that was brewed mere feet away from where you're sitting. This tour is worth every penny and should not be missed - even if you don't like beer."

2 The Plaza

Typical review: "I have visited this theatre a number of times, it is a beautiful theatre restored to its former glory in Art Deco style. The staff are always very welcoming and helpful. Most are volunteers. Can't wait to go back, always a pleasure!!"

3 Stockport Air Raid Shelters

Typical review: "Probably one of the best kept secrets of Greater Manchester, these tunnels were where the people of Stockport would shelter while the Luftwaffe bombed Manchester and Stockport in Blitz. It was amazing how life in these tunnels mirrored the life they had outside. The most poignant experience is when they turn out the lights. This is one attraction that will bring the home front of the war to life. Well worth taking the kids but wrap up warm and wear sturdy shoes. I love it."

4 Regent Cinema Marple

Typical review: "I love this cinema it's beautiful. Always my first choice, a good old fashioned traditional cinema, ice cream breaks including. No daft prices or silly over priced foods, just simple and relaxing. The sounds not always perfect due to less expensive, no thrills surround but that's not how cinemas were. It's kept in original condition and is a credit to Marple and all who look after it! Beautiful."

5 Staircase House

Typical review: "What a great place to visit for young and old. Been to Stockport Market over many years, but never knew what was hidden so close to the market stalls. Staircase House is well worth a visit, the staff are very helpful and you get to take round an audio commentary which explains each room in detail. Lots to see, educational and fun."

6 Hat Works Museum of Hatting

Typical review: "Had a great day out here. The tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and gave me personalised tour! It's a fascinating insight into the history of hat making as well as a chance to see wonderful historic and contemporary designs. I spent a happy and fascinating afternoon."

7 Etherow Country Park

Typical review: "It's a gorgeous park, with a little cafe, garden centre and walks (long or short) depending on how adventurous you are. Ideal in the Summer for taking picnics, feeding the ducks or just chilling in the sunshine."

8 Marple Locks

Typical review: "The peace and tranquillity you get by walking along these spectacular locks is fantastic. We went early morning so as to hear the morning song birds and to get brisk fresh air."

9 Games and Entertainment

(Including Awesome Walls Climbing Centre Stockport, Kids Go Karting, Skate City, Zoom Playcentre and Stockport Paintball Club)

Typical review: "Took my son and his friends here for a day out, they thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend for ideas to do in half term!"

10 Reddish Vale Farm

Typical review: "Great inexpensive day out with two granddaughters. They had a lovely time feeding the animals going on the bouncy castles and having a picnic on a lovely sunny day. Well worth a visit."
