RAWALPINDI: A court in Rawalpindi on Wednesday imprisoned a person for life and imposed fine on him for kidnapping and murdering a 15-year old boy.

After hearing defense and prosecution arguments, Additional District and Sessions Judge Tahir Khan Niazi gave the verdict — life imprisonment and a fine Rs500,000 on Muhammad Ijaz. He was convicted of kidnapping-for-ransom and murdering Bilal Ali.

Three other persons, identified as Murad Ali, Qasim and Waseem, who were also accused of abetting Ijaz were found innocent and released.

Ijaz kidnapped Ali from the Rawat area on January 13, 2013. The case was registered by the deceased’s father Fida Hussain, who nominated the convicted person along with those released by the court. Ali’s body was recovered from a deserted area on January 24.

Meanwhile, civil judge Faizul Hasan awarded a one year jail term and a Rs5,000 fine on Mushtaq Ahmad for carrying an illegal weapon. Another year will be added to his prison sentence if he fails to pay the fine.
