Juan Pablo Montoya currently sits in first place Verizon IndyCar Series points standings, and he has a Huntsville, Ala. engineer to thank for much of that success.
Brian Campe, lead engineer for the No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet,is back in Alabama for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park this weekend.
Campe is hopeful that Montoya will have another successful day at the racetrack.
"We finished the 2014 season on a high note and we have carried that momentum through the off season and into the start of 2015," Campe said. "We found out where our weaknesses were and we attacked those - which were the street courses and road courses - and we've been strong in those areas so far."
Campe is the son of a former NASA aerospace employee in Huntsville, and has worked formerly for Hendrick Motorsports; Camp was also a former crew chief at Jr. Motorsports.
Campe said he's excited to be back in Alabama, as well as be surrounded by fellow Auburn fans.
"It is always special to come home to Alabama and race in front of family and friends," he said. "It's always good to come back and see some Auburn fans too."
Campe has led Montoya to two wins since the middle of 2014, at Pocono and St. Petersburgh; he has 119 standings points coming into the Barber race.
