A Springfield man was charged Tuesday with unlawful use of a weapon after police say he fired a handgun multiple times at his father’s house.

Adrian Murray, 28, reportedly approached a residence in the 1000 block of East Commercial Street and began banging on the outer wall.

One of the residents, Janice Abercrombie, told police she opened the front door and saw Murray standing outside and facing her. Abercrombie also told police she was familiar with Murray, and that he had been previously asked not to return to the house.

Abercrombie told police that Murray was holding a gun, and began to raise it toward her. Abercrombie quickly shut the door, and said she later heard what she believed to be several gunshots.

Kenneth Deal, a neighbor, told police he saw Murray running away from the residence after he heard gunshots. Deal said Murray then got into a white SUV and pointed a handgun out of the passenger side window and fired several more times.

When police investigated the scene, they were unable to locate any projectiles inside the residence or its outer walls. There were several holes in the house’s siding, but residents were unsure if they had been there previously. Police did locate a .32 caliber shell casing from the area.

Murray was arrested several hours later in a white SUV. He later told police that his father lived at the house, and that the two did not have a good relationship. Murray denied being at the house that day.
