Brandon Joseph Barrington, 20, of Topeka, is suspected of holding up Community National Bank, 2909 S.W. Topeka Blvd., on Tuesday and fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Topeka police Wednesday released the identity of the man who is suspected of robbing a local bank Tuesday.

Lt. Chuck Haggard identified the man as Brandon Joseph Barrington, 20, of Topeka.

Shawnee County Jail records indicate Barrington was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, felony obstruction and felony theft.

Police officers were dispatched about 5 p.m. Tuesday to Community National Bank, 2909 S.W. Topeka Blvd., on a report of an armed robbery.

Employees of the bank told police a man entered through the business’ front door, displayed a weapon, demanded money and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The employees were able to quickly provide police with a solid description of the robber.

Officers canvassing the area spotted a man matching the description. That person, who was Barrington, attempted to run from police, authorities said, but was apprehended at S.W. 31st and Lincoln.

No injuries were reported.

The matter has been turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
