The festival of lights turned out to be accident-free in Tiruchi and its neighbouring fire divisions this year much to the relief of the fire fighters.
As compared to previous years there was no fire calls due to bursting of crackers on the festival day.
There was not a single fire call from any of the eight fire stations in Tiruchi district, said G.Sathyanarayanan, Divisional Fire Officer, Tiruchi.
Same was the case in neighbouring Perambalur and Karur Fire Divisions, both of which accounts for a total of 10 fire stations.
In Pudukottai fire division, only one accident due to firing of rocket was reported on the festival day.
Widespread rain in different parts was a major factor for the nil fire report on Deepavali day, fire and rescue officials said.
On the eve of the festival, fire fighters in all the stations were instructed to be in a state of alert to attend to any fire accidents caused by bursting of crackers.
Fire tenders were deployed at different points in Tiruchi city to move swiftly to attend to any emergencies. Awareness campaigns were conducted to drive home the message of celebrating a safe festival.
