Frk's Hat Trick Leads Walleye 5-4

(Charleston, SC) Martin Frk scored his third goal of the game at 5:29 of overtime to lead the Walleye to a 5-4 win Saturday night in South Carolina. Toledo trails the best of seven series three games to two with game six Tuesday night at the Huntington Center.

Toledo started the scoring at 3:14 of the first period when Justin Mercier fed a pass in front of the goal to Martin Frk. Frk went top shelf with a backhand shot for his 7th goal of the year. South Carolina tied the game at 12:34 as defenseman Drew MacKenzie beat Walleye goaltender Neil Conway on a rebound. The Stingrays took a 2-1 lead at 17:05 on a goal from Derek BeBlois.

The Walleye tied the game when Shane Berschbach (7th) beat Jeff Jakaitis at the side of the net at 9:46 of the second period. DeBlois scored on a breakaway for the Stingrays to regain the lead at 12:29 of the period. With just 1:03 left in the second, the Stingrays scored another to lead 4-2 going to the third.

Frk picked up his second goal of the game at 9:20 of the third period with a rocket from the top of the left circle to pull the Walleye within one. With 3:50 left in regulation time, Jared Nightingale backhanded a shot past Jakaitis to send the game to overtime tied at four.

A couple of great saves by Conway gave Toledo a chance to win the game in overtime and at 5:29 Martin Frk blasted a slap shot past Jakaitis for his third goal of the game.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Neil Conway made 30 saves on 34 shots and has a record of 3-2 in the playoffs. Martin Frk picked up his second hat trick in the last three games and he has six goals in the series. The win snapped a four game overtime losing streak for the Walleye.
